“Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water” are the five major elements in nature. They are the essence of elemense, and they are represented as five fragrances.

The ancient Chinese philosophy of “Five Elements Theory” states that all things in the universe are created from the five major elements. It also describes that these elements create a flow as they interact and influence one another. We unraveled this theory to develop the fragrances of elemense. Each fragrance is meticulously blended to deliver complex layers and depth. It expands through gradual transformation from the top notes to the last notes, just like a relay.

elemense brand name is a combination of the words: “element” and “sense.” The fragrances developed for embody the refined sense of our perfumers and reflect the concept of five elements in nature.

Our perfumers have the privilege of Nippon Kodo’s culture and artistry of perfumery that spans 440 years. They apply their honed sensibility and skills with the highest quality raw materials procured from all over the world to blend the fragrances that are exclusive to Nippon Kodo.

Elemense Incense is offered in five fragrances, and the Diffuser Oil comes in three fragrances. Incense and Diffuser Oil have different key notes. For that reason, we designed different blends of ingredients for Incense and Diffuser Oil to bring you the intended fragrance.

Scents have an effect on your soul. The four kanji characters listed for each of the five fragrances are quotations from the “Ten Virtues of Koh,” which is a verse on incense that was introduced to Japan over 600 years ago.

The benefits of incense that are listed in the old verse are still relevant today. The fragrances for elemense are carefully blended so that they will create a “framework” to set the space and relax your mind.
